quite a while ago, when all the christmas lights started going up, madeline and i happened upon this little gem. wattage-wise, it didn’t compete with some of the other houses in the neighborhood. glittering beacons of holiday (mercantile) cheer. the half-way house was an explosion. the pirate house (the kids there were obsessed with pirates for a while) had a full-on ferris wheel.
but the biggest and brightest isn’t always the “best”. simplicity often wins out over the binge and purge of excess. when i saw the flying pig, i laughed out loud and immediately started talking to myself, “oh my god, i love that thing”. not good under many circumstances; but i think this might be an exception.
